An Introduction
Livingston is a large, small town. Beautiful, quintessentially suburban and originally culled from sections of West Orange, Springfield, and Fairfield , Livingston takes its name from William Livingston, the first governor of New Jersey. An acclaimed public school system, proximity to major highways and Manhattan, as well as real neighborhoods are part of Livingston’s draw.
Mount Pleasant Avenue/Route 10 was a stage coach route from Newark to Morristown in the 1800’s. Now, it is a major thoroughfare with businesses, retail stores, restaurants and car dealerships. There is a township jitney that drops off at the South Orange train station which brings you swiftly into Manhattan. Livingston Avenue, Town Center, Route 10 and of course, the Livingston Mall provide abundant shopping opportunities.
There are two community pools, the Livingston Senior Center, a YMCA, The Monmouth Court Community Center. Memorial Park, in front of the impressively situated Livingston High School , hosts many town events. Riker Hill Art Park, Dinosaur Park, East Hills Park, Prospect Park, Livingston Dog Park, Livingston Skate Park , Becker Park and Littell People’s Park are some of the best places to be in town. There is something of interest for everyone.
